Young people

This is written especially for you and we’d like you to read it as if it were a personal letter, rather than just as another book. We’ve written it because we’re interested in you — interested in your thoughts and activities — your whole life, and we very much want you to find true happiness in life.

We believe it’s really good to be alive, there is so much to do — no end to the wonderful things to be learned. Life can be one big adventure — if we want it to be. But it isn’t just fun. Fun lasts only a little while and it leaves you empty and unsatisfied. If we’re going to really enjoy life we must take it as a serious adventure.

We want you to know that it would be a tragedy to waste your life. We only have one life to live and so much depends on what we do with it. You agree with us about that? So many people just drift through life, letting their environment control them rather than taking control of their own lives. We are writing this to encourage you to take control of your own life by making decisions based on God’s principles and by letting him work with you.

Now the main point in this first page of our letter is this: the things we want to talk to you about are important things — measured in God’s way. And that’s the only measure worth using. Life can only be truly good if we live God’s way, and it’s not hard to find out what that way is. He tells us about it in his book, and, so we won’t misunderstand, his son showed us how to live that way.

“But”, you may say, “things are different now. All sorts of questions crop up which weren’t there when Jesus lived on the earth.” They do, we agree. But there’s no real difference. Problems of living today are essentially the same as the problems of long ago, they just look different. In all times, the way to find the answer to these problems has been the same — be guided by God’s word. We hope this booklet can help you find that guidance. And we want you to know that we have asked for God’s guidance in getting it ready.
